Varaždin Cathedral of the Assumption began in the 17th century as the church of a Jesuit complex. It was built between 1642 and 1646 and later passed through different ecclesiastical administrations before becoming the cathedral when the Diocese of Varaždin was established. The church stands close to the central streets, only a short walk from Korzo. Its interior is strongly Baroque, with richly formed altars and notable acoustics that also make it a venue for Varaždin Baroque Evenings concerts. It is especially rewarding for visitors interested in Baroque architecture, sacred art and the city’s long musical tradition.
