St Nicholas Parish Church stands in the heart of Varaždin and continues a long urban parish tradition documented since the Middle Ages. The present church was shaped through later rebuilding, yet it preserves elements that point to earlier phases, most visibly in the tower with its Gothic associations. Its location within the pedestrian centre makes it an easy stop between Korzo, the palaces and other churches. The building is particularly interesting because of this layered history: it is not simply another Baroque church, but a place where the continuity of Varaždin’s parish and civic development can be read in the architecture.
