St Roch’s Chapel on Zagrebačka Street preserves Varaždin’s memory of a communal vow made during an age of plague. Citizens built it beside the road leading to Zagreb, beyond the town limits of the time, after an epidemic affecting nearby regions spared Varaždin; it was completed in 1715. A canonical visitation recorded the chapel as early as 1716, while a 1771 record explicitly describes it as the whole town’s vow for protection from plague. The chapel belongs to St Vitus Parish, administered by Varaždin’s Capuchins. Its roadside setting makes it a brief yet meaningful stop when exploring the city’s southern approach.
