Cvetlin
About this place
Cvetlin is a village in Bednja Municipality at Croatia’s far north-western edge, beside the road crossing towards Slovenia. Above it rises the north-western cliff of Ravna Gora, equipped with routes for alpine climbing. Ravna Gora reaches 686 metres, and its lookout provides a view towards Trakošćan Castle. Cvetlin also serves as the lower end of a planned hiking and educational trail to the mountain, recorded in municipal infrastructure programmes. Paragliding launches occupy the slopes above the village, while landing areas are associated with Cvetlin itself; the municipality’s tourism presentation identifies this terrain as an important local free-flight site. Within the village, the branch school houses the “Naša zibelka” ethnographic room, assembled through the collecting work of teacher Marica Mavriček. Schooling in Cvetlin dates to the nineteenth century, and the school history also records the road that connected the village with Styria. Today Ž2042 leads towards the state border, while local road L25009 links Cvetlin with Jamno. Hiking, climbing, ethnography and a borderland setting therefore meet in one compact Zagorje village.
Cvetlin belongs to Bednja Municipality, a district enclosed by Ravna Gora, Maceljska Gora, Strahinjčica and Ivančica. The village stands near Croatia’s northern edge, with a secondary road route passing through the Cvetlin border crossing towards Ptuj. The municipal settlement list records hamlets and family clusters including Školniki, Kovači, Hrenići, Smiljani, Cari and Štrclji. Local identity is also preserved at the branch school, whose “Naša zibelka” ethnographic room contains objects gathered through the work of teacher Marica Mavriček. The Ravna Gora cliff dominates the slopes above the houses and gives Cvetlin its distinctive hiking, climbing and paragliding character.

Things to do
Set out from Cvetlin towards Ravna Gora, whose 686-metre summit carries a lookout with views towards Trakošćan. Alpine routes have been established on the north-western cliff above the village, making that section suitable for experienced climbers with proper equipment. Paragliders use launch sites on Ravna Gora and landing areas by Cvetlin, so colourful wings are a characteristic sight above the valley. Back in the village, seek out the branch school and its “Naša zibelka” ethnographic room, devoted to objects from the former everyday life of Cvetlin families. The visit can finish at the refurbished village square and the children’s playground immediately behind it.

Practical information
Getting there and around
Cvetlin is a road-oriented village in the northern part of Bednja Municipality. County road Ž2042 runs from Cvetlin to the Slovenian state border, while local road L25009 connects Jamno with Cvetlin. The Cvetlin crossing provides a secondary route towards Ptuj, whereas the route through Bednja and Lepoglava continues towards Varaždin. The municipal strategy records four county roads and nine local roads across Bednja but identifies no railway station in Cvetlin. For Ravna Gora, the practical approach is by road to the village, followed by the Cvetlin–Ravna Gora hiking and educational route on foot.
