Udbina Castle stands at Gradina, an elevated and easily defended position overlooking Krbava Field. It was built after the older Krbava castle had been abandoned, and its setting allowed control of an important route across the field. The Ottomans captured Udbina in 1527 and repaired and strengthened it during the 16th century as a strategically important fortress. Parts of the northern wall, the entrance gateway and the base of a round tower can still be seen. The site especially rewards visitors interested in Lika’s medieval and Ottoman history, as well as the broad views above the settlement.
