The Church of Croatian Martyrs was built beside the foundations of Udbina’s former Church of St Nicholas and blessed on 11 September 2010. Bishop Mile Bogović conceived it as a Croatian national shrine and a place of remembrance for martyrs, defenders, victims and others who suffered. St John Paul II Square and its papal monument stand before the church, while memorial elements in and around the shrine reinforce its religious and historical role. Each September, Udbina hosts the Day of Croatian Martyrs here, drawing a large number of pilgrims.
