Murtar Lighthouse stands on a small islet at the southern entrance to the channel between Cres and Lošinj, marking the approach to Mali Lošinj. The station was established in 1867, while sources also record lighthouse construction on Murtar reef in 1866. Its historic complex consists of an unpainted stone keeper’s house and an octagonal stone tower with a lantern. The original light is no longer active; the current light is displayed from a white concrete post in front of the old building. The islet can be reached only by boat, although the lighthouse is also visible from ferry routes between Mali Lošinj, Susak and Unije.
