The Church of Saints Pelagius and Maximus served for centuries as the central church of the former Diocese of Novigrad and retained cathedral status into the 19th century. The present three-aisled basilica preserves evidence of very early building phases, including Early Christian window frames discovered in 1972. Beneath the raised choir is an early Romanesque crypt, while a Baroque altar dominates the interior. The church underwent repeated restorations, and its present Neoclassical façade was completed in 1935. A detached bell tower stands nearby. Located in the old-town core, it pairs especially well with the nearby Lapidarium Museum, which preserves stone fragments from the former cathedral complex.
