Kula Avala is a fortification positioned between Vrgorac's fortress Gradina and the city's upper districts, approximately fifty paces from Gradina's gates. Built during Ottoman rule, it features a distinctive cylindrical shape with a conical roof and walls 130 centimeters thick with two rows of gun ports. It was first documented by Venetian commander Rubia through a sketch after 1690. The name "Avala" was first recorded by engineer Ivan Frano Rossini in 1749, meaning "elevated position" in Arabic. The tower was restored in the 20th century with reconstructed stone crenellations.
