The coronation church of Saints Peter and Moses, commonly known as the Hollow Church, stands beside the Jadro east of ancient Salona. In the 11th century a large three-aisled early Romanesque basilica was erected within an earlier Christian church complex and was associated with a Benedictine monastery. Historical and archaeological evidence connects the site with the coronation of King Dmitar Zvonimir on 8 October 1076. Only low walls and parts of the ground plan survive today, and the riverside setting makes the original scale difficult to visualise. The remains are modest in height but exceptional in importance for early Croatian history, and the visit is most rewarding with some understanding of the church’s plan.
