Gospin Otok is a river island in central Solin where archaeologists uncovered early medieval churches and one of the most important inscriptions in Croatian history. Queen Helena is associated with church building here in the 10th century, and fragments of her sarcophagus and epitaph, recording her death in 976, were found in the atrium of the northern church. The archaeological remains are not presented as a large standing monument; much survives below ground or is marked within the site, while the most important finds are preserved in museums. Gospin Otok is therefore best understood as a historical landscape linking the Jadro, early Croatian royal tradition, archaeology and the modern Marian sanctuary.
