Gradina stands beside the Jadro and the eastern edge of ancient Salona, combining late antiquity and early-modern military history within a compact site. Inside the fortress are remains of a centrally planned church built in the 6th century, during the age of Emperor Justinian, while the surviving defensive enclosure largely reflects the Ottoman–Venetian conflicts of the 16th century. The walls form an irregular fortification with traces of corner towers and artillery openings. The site is easy to reach from central Solin and can be combined with Gospin Otok and the Hollow Church. It is especially interesting for visitors who enjoy places where several historical periods are visibly layered in the same space.
