Banj lies in the Crnica district on the north-western edge of Šibenik’s historic centre. It was created on former industrial waterfront land and opened in June 2012, returning this stretch of coast to public recreational use. Fine pebbles, showers, a promenade, a children’s playground and outdoor exercise equipment make it a practical city beach, but its defining feature is the view across the bay towards St James’s Cathedral and St Michael’s Fortress. The beach is about a ten-minute walk from the fortress, making it unusually easy to combine a swim with sightseeing in the old town.
