Ratkovica
About this place
Ratkovica is a village administered by the Town of Pleternica, about ten kilometres south of the town centre between Komorica and Dragovci. Its principal landmark is the Chapel of St Michael, a medieval religious monument dated to the 15th century in heritage listings and recorded under designation Z-414. Pleternica’s tourism strategy classifies the chapel as a religious site of regional importance, while noting that it is not accessible to visitors with disabilities. Ratkovica’s position on Požeška gora also carries an industrial layer: the regional tourist board records that a coal mine once operated on the mountain above the village. A present-day visit can combine the chapel with a walk towards Pljuskara and a drive through Komorica, Dragovci and Brodski Drenovac. Visitors without a car can use county bus route 26 between Pleternica and Ratkovica, while route 25 links Požega, Pleternica and Brodski Drenovac. Ratkovica is therefore a compact stop for medieval heritage, traces of a mining landscape and walking on the southern side of Požeška gora.
Ratkovica belongs to the Town of Pleternica and lies roughly ten kilometres south of Pleternica, within a line of villages that includes Komorica, Dragovci and Brodski Drenovac. The slopes of Požeška gora rise above the settlement, where the regional tourism overview records a former coal mine. The village’s historical focal point is the 15th-century Chapel of St Michael, listed as protected religious heritage under designation Z-414. This combination of a medieval chapel and a former mining landscape gives Ratkovica an identity distinct from the vineyard and museum attractions found in central Pleternica.
