Orubica, Davor
About this place
Orubica is a Sava-side village in the Municipality of Davor, set beside the river’s broad meanders and linked with Davor and the Zapolje road by county road Ž4178. The village has an unusually strong living heritage: Kolo na dva štuka is danced specifically in Orubica and is protected as Croatian intangible cultural heritage. Its name refers to a demanding formation in which a lower circle supports a second circle of dancers above it, a tradition performed since the early 20th century. The Marijan Lanosović Cultural and Arts Association, successor to the former Seljačka sloga branch, keeps the custom alive. Both the association and the village school honour Marijan Lanosović, a Franciscan linguist and writer born in Orubica. Another local craft is orubička neca, a knotted net-like textile used for tablecloths, altar cloths and elements of traditional dress. Orubica is therefore best approached through its folklore, the Church of St Elijah the Prophet, the Sava landscape and skills passed between generations.
Although Orubica belongs administratively to the Municipality of Davor, its cultural signature rests on customs performed specifically in this village. Kolo na dva štuka is protected intangible heritage, with a lower circle of dancers physically supporting a second circle above. The Marijan Lanosović Cultural and Arts Association preserves the tradition, whose origins are placed in the early 20th century. Franciscan linguist and writer Marijan Lanosović was born in Orubica, and both the association and the branch school bear his name. Orubička neca further distinguishes the village: this handmade net-like work appeared on altar cloths, tablecloths and elements of traditional Šokac clothing.

Things to do
Begin in Orubica at the Church of St Elijah the Prophet and the Fra Marijan Lanosović branch school, two landmarks tied to the village’s religious and educational life. Continue towards the Sava edge of the settlement, where broad river bends define the landscape of the Nova Gradiška Posavina. Explore the work of the Marijan Lanosović Cultural and Arts Association and Kolo na dva štuka, a custom performed only in Orubica. Also look for the story of orubička neca, the village’s net-like needlework once used for altar cloths, tablecloths, bedcovers and sections of traditional dress.

Practical information
Getting there and around
The principal road access to Orubica follows county road Ž4178, officially described as running from its junction with Ž4158 through Zapolje and Orubica to Davor. It provides onward travel to Davor, the municipal centre farther along the Sava, and to the main roads inland. A car or bicycle is more practical for combining Orubica, its river edge and neighbouring Davor than relying on frequent public departures. An Okučani–Orubica–Davor cycling circuit was documented in 2014 as an 85-kilometre ride, demonstrating how the village can form part of a more demanding Posavina excursion.
