About
Savica Lakes form the Savica Significant Landscape, a protected wetland complex on the left bank of the Sava in Zagreb. The core area consists of an old Sava river arm and a series of lakes created in former gravel pits. Savica is separated from the main river course by an embankment, yet the lakes remain connected to the Sava, so their water levels change with the river. Management focuses on conserving this urban wetland ecosystem, which is important for biodiversity, especially birds. Waterside paths draw walkers and nature observers, while the site itself rewards a careful, low-impact visit.
