Lukavec, Ivanec
About this place
Lukavec is a small settlement within the Town of Ivanec in Varaždin County, set among the villages of Cerje Tužno, Stažnjevec and Gačice. The 2021 census recorded 134 residents, 39 households and 96 dwellings, giving it the scale of a distinctly rural community rather than a visitor centre. The village name has deep documentary roots: Lukavec appears among the estates confirmed to the Petheö family by King Ferdinand in 1564. Its clearest present-day reason for a visit is the Ivanec cycling route, whose 86.6 kilometres and five linked sections pass through numerous local settlements, including Lukavec. Fields and woodland extend between Lukavec, Cerje Tužno, Osečka and Lovrečan, making the village better suited to a slow cycling passage than conventional sightseeing. It can be combined with Ivanec and the trailheads below Mount Ivančica, but Lukavec itself remains a quiet stage of the route rather than a destination with museums, developed attractions or substantial visitor infrastructure.
Lukavec is one of the 29 settlements within the Town of Ivanec; the 2021 census recorded 134 residents in 39 households. A 1564 charter issued by King Ferdinand lists Lukavec among the villages confirmed to the Petheö family, then holders of the Bela estate. Between 1910 and 1971, official statistics recorded the settlement under the name Lukavec Podbelski. That earlier name and its connection with the Bela estate distinguish Ivanec’s Lukavec from other Croatian places bearing the same name.

Things to do
Lukavec works best as a stage on the Ivanec cycle-touring route, which links Stažnjevec, Lukavec, Cerje Tužno and Salinovec with other settlements across the municipal area. The complete network measures 86.6 kilometres, while the 63-kilometre main circuit has five connecting branches, allowing riders to adapt the village section to a shorter outing. Continue from Lukavec towards Ivanec, where four principal marked trails climb towards the summit of Mount Ivančica. This sequence combines a gentler lowland ride through Lukavec with more demanding walking below Ivančica, without attributing to the village attractions that properly belong to Ivanec or the mountain.

Practical information
Getting there and around
Lukavec is reached by road from Cerje Tužno and Gačice, while official city material identifies the route towards Tužno as the Lukavec–Tužno county road. The village has no transport hub or railway station, making a car the simplest option for arriving and continuing towards Ivanec. Cyclists can include Lukavec in a circuit through the neighbouring settlements administered by Ivanec, though the village and county roads are shared with motor traffic and lack dedicated visitor infrastructure. Published local sources provide no dependable scheduled timetable for a Lukavec stop, so any public-transport connection should be checked in Ivanec before departure.
