Church of Assumption of Blessed Virgin Mary in Zajezda

The parish church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary stands in Zajezda, in the Municipality of Budinščina. It dates from the second half of the 15th century, with a polygonal sanctuary covered by a radial vault forming its oldest core. The wider nave now has a wooden ceiling. A Baroque chapel was added along the south wall, while the bell tower adjoins the sanctuary’s north wall and the entrance is framed by a Baroque porch. Inside, visitors can notice fragments of medieval wall painting on the triumphal arch and the 1749 Baroque altar of St Joseph. The church is listed in Croatia’s Register of Cultural Goods as Z-2843.
