About
Papuk Nature Park was established in 1999 to protect the exceptional geological and biological diversity, as well as the cultural heritage, of Papuk Mountain and part of Krndija. Covering 336 square kilometres across Požega-Slavonia and Virovitica-Podravina counties, it is distinguished by a remarkable range of rock types. Its oldest metamorphic rocks are more than 400 million years old, while Rupnica near Voćin is known for the columnar jointing of volcanic rock. Papuk became Croatia’s first geopark in 2007. Forests cover most of the park, and Jankovac, with streams and the 35-metre Skakavac waterfall, offers an accessible mountain-water landscape. It suits day-trippers, hikers, and visitors interested in geological heritage.
