Cape Kamenjak forms the southernmost tip of Istria, south of Premantura, and with its surrounding waters belongs to the Lower Kamenjak and Medulin Archipelago protected landscape. The peninsula is about six kilometres long and around one kilometre wide on average, with roughly 30 kilometres of deeply indented coast, numerous coves, beaches and islets. Its southern section has been protected since 1996 to preserve its vegetation, and the area is managed by the Kamenjak Public Institution. The shore is mainly rocky, with flat sunbathing slabs and several sandy beaches. Shipwreck remains from 17th- and 18th-century sailing vessels have been recorded offshore; strong currents in the south call for care when swimming.
