Porer Lighthouse was established in 1833 on the rock of the same name, about one and a half nautical miles southwest of Cape Kamenjak. A round stone tower, 35 metres high and the tallest lighthouse in Istria, dominates this exceptionally small islet. Its first navigational light was a white lantern on a wooden pole; the stone building and tower followed in 1846, later receiving optical equipment for maritime safety. The lighthouse is automated and remotely monitored, with a permanent crew on site. Porer is visited by boat; swimming is advised only near the landing point because currents around the islet are strong.
