Standing west of the fortress church of St Mary of Mercy, the parish Church of St Lawrence is Vrboska’s principal treasury of sacred art. It originated in the 15th century and was reshaped in the Baroque style during the 17th century, which still defines its appearance. The church has five altars and a notable collection of paintings and sculpture. Its high altar is dedicated to St Lawrence, while the side panels depict St John the Baptist and St Nicholas. Many works were transferred here from the nearby fortified church because of damp conditions there. It is well worth visiting for both its parish role and its artistic holdings.
