The Church of St Roch was built in 1635 after a plague epidemic, and local tradition links its patron saint with Sutivan’s deliverance from disease. It occupies a hill above the old enclosed cemetery, with views across the settlement and the Brač Channel. The church keeps a wooden statue of St Roch showing his wounded knee, an important object of local devotion. On St Roch’s Day, 16 August, the statue is carried in procession to the parish church and returned to its hilltop church seven days later. It is especially rewarding for visitors drawn to small votive churches and living local religious customs beyond Sutivan’s waterfront.
