In eastern Sutivan, the foundations of a large 6th-century Early Christian basilica remain visible beside the present Church of St John. The basilica had a trefoil sanctuary and a narthex, and belongs to a rare type known from only three sites in Dalmatia. The small church standing today was built in 1665 within the basilica’s foundations; it preserves fragments of the altar table and small columns found on site. Nearby ruins have long been called Mojstir by local people, suggesting a possible medieval monastery. Walk around the church to trace the visible foundations, then look inside for the restored wooden altar and a built-in stone bearing an unusual drawing.
