Neretva estuary

The Neretva estuary is a special ornithological and ichthyological reserve, designated in 2020. Its four separate sections—Parila, Galičak I, Galičak II and Blace Bay—join river, wetland and marine landscapes. Shallows and lagoons alternate with saline habitats supporting glasswort, a plant adapted to high salt concentrations. Lake Parila is an important feeding and resting place for birds during migration and winter, while sheltered waters provide favourable fish-spawning conditions. The most rewarding way to experience the area is through unobtrusive landscape and birdwatching, without entering its sensitive habitats.
