The Franciscan monastery and Church of the Assumption represent a precious Baroque sanctuary in Samobor. Franciscan presence in the area dates to 1525 when Pope Clement VII granted permission to Samobor nobleman Juraj Thurry to build a monastery for the Friars Minor. The present complex was completed in 1721 and the church in 1733, with formal consecration in 1736. The church is a detailed Baroque composition measuring 39 meters in length and 19 meters in width, dominated by a fresco of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary painted by Slovak Baroque artist Franc Jelovšek in 1752. The monastery is centrally arranged around a courtyard featuring a well from 1717.
