Nedelišće is a substantial Međimurje settlement between Čakovec and Varaždin, distinguished by an unusual combination of sporting infrastructure and Kajkavian literary history. In 1574, Juraj Zrinski’s local printing house produced Ivanuš Pergošić’s “Decretum tripartitum”, the first printed book in the Kajkavian language; a replica sixteenth-century wooden press now recalls that milestone. The modern face of Nedelišće is Sport Hub Nedelišće, a 5,200-square-metre complex containing dedicated gymnastics and sports halls, fitness and wellness facilities, and accommodation. Nearby Sports Park Trate adds clay tennis courts, small-football pitches, beach volleyball and table tennis. This cluster makes the village a particularly useful base for an active stay, while the flat surrounding landscape suits cycling into other parts of Međimurje. Nedelišće is also one of the county’s larger settlements: the 2021 census counted 3,840 residents, placing it behind only Čakovec and Prelog among the places listed by the Croatian Encyclopedia.
Nedelišće pairs a rare printing legacy with a distinctly athletic present. The 1574 publication of Pergošić’s “Decretum tripartitum” gives the village a singular place in Kajkavian language history, while a replica period press turns that story into something visitors can see rather than merely read about. A few minutes away, Sport Hub Nedelišće and Sports Park Trate reveal another side of the settlement, bringing gymnastics, tennis, athletics and small-sided football into one compact area. Its level position southwest of Čakovec also makes Nedelišće a convenient starting point for cycling into the wider Međimurje countryside.
Begin with the story of Juraj Zrinski’s printing house and the replica press linked to the landmark book printed here in 1574. Then move to Nedelišće’s sporting quarter: Sport Hub contains a specialist gymnastics hall equipped to FIG standards, while neighbouring Trate offers five clay tennis courts, two of them covered. Beach volleyball, table tennis, boules and artificial-turf pitches broaden the choice. For a longer ride, join one of the marked Međimurje cycling routes, such as the M6, before ending with an easy walk along the village’s flat outer lanes.
Nedelišće lies on the Međimurje corridor between Varaždin and Čakovec, making it straightforward to combine with either city by car. The regional railway network links Varaždin, Čakovec and Lendava; HŽPP’s 2026 cross-border timetable shows a 16-minute Varaždin–Čakovec journey on one service, although the relevant local-stop connection should be selected for the actual travel date. Road access is the simplest option for Sport Hub and Trate. Once in Nedelišće, the centre, sporting facilities and printing-related heritage can be combined on foot or by bicycle.
