The Church of the Holy Cross, now the co-cathedral of the Diocese of Bjelovar-Križevci, was first recorded in 1232. It originally stood beyond the walls of Lower Križevci within a separate fortification. A 14th-century side portal and small single-light windows survive from its early phases, while most of the current structure dates from the late Gothic period at the end of the 15th century. Its sanctuary holds the marble Altar of the Holy Cross, made by Francesco Robba in 1756 for Zagreb Cathedral and later transferred to Križevci. Also look for Oton Iveković’s large painting of the Bloody Assembly of Križevci above the sanctuary arch.
