Osijek’s Capuchin convent of St James was established on land donated to the order by Ivan Jakov von Eggendorff. The convent was completed in 1710, while construction of the church dedicated to St James the Apostle began in 1721 and continued until 1727, the year of its consecration. The complex stands on Kapucinska Street, one of Upper Town’s principal routes, and is easy to reach on foot from the centre. Beyond its early 18th-century architecture, it has a continuous monastic history: during the 20th century, the convent housed a minor seminary and the Seraphic secondary school. As the church remains in liturgical use, visits should respect the service schedule.
