Brestovac stands on the western side of the Požega Valley, where fields and vineyards meet the wooded slopes of Papuk, Psunj and Požeška Gora. The village and its wider municipality preserve several very different historical layers. A parish church dedicated to St Martin was recorded here in 1332, while the surviving building was restored in 1760. A fortified noble residence known as Brestovac or Oštri kamen once occupied a nearby hill. The municipality’s leading archaeological destination is Rudina, where the foundations of the 13th-century Benedictine Abbey of St Michael survive alongside the distinctive carved stone faces called the “Rudina heads.” Above Dolac, part of an octagonal tower remains from the medieval Dolački old town on a ridge of Babja Gora. Stari Brestovac excursion park, opened in 2021, adds fishponds, educational paths, a restaurant and activities for children and adults. Together, these sites make Brestovac a useful base for exploring the quieter western reaches of the Požega Valley and its medieval heritage.
Brestovac occupies the western Požega Valley, while its large municipal territory rises towards Papuk, Psunj and Požeška Gora. The municipality covers 221 square kilometres and contains 38 settlements, explaining why Rudina, Dolac and other points of interest are spread far apart. The parish of St Martin, first recorded in 1332, forms the central historical reference, and its church was restored in 1760. The settlement also shares its name with a former fortified noble residence known as Brestovac or Oštri kamen. Waves of migration from the 18th century onwards further shaped the population of this part of the Zlatna Dolina, or Golden Valley.

Begin in Brestovac at the Church of St Martin, linked to a parish documented as early as 1332. For a deeper archaeological outing, continue to Rudina, where the foundations of the 13th-century Benedictine Abbey of St Michael accompany the story of carved facial corbels known as the Rudina heads. A separate route leads towards Dolac and the remains of Dolački old town on a Babja Gora ridge, where part of an octagonal tower still survives. End the day at Stari Brestovac excursion park, opened in 2021, with its fishponds, educational trails, restaurant and a mixture of learning and leisure facilities designed for both children and adults.
