About
Medvedgrad is a medieval fortified town high on Medvednica’s southern slope, a position that once controlled approaches to Zagreb and the Sava plain. Its owners included Zagreb bishops, kings and noble families; its last residents moved to a manor in Šestine in 1571. Within the surviving complex, visitors can identify defensive walls, the palas or residential building, and a chapel, while the setting itself explains the fortress’s former strategic value. The site now includes the Medvedgrad Visitor Centre, making it a rewarding stop for visitors who want to combine medieval heritage with broad views from the mountain above Zagreb.
