Church of Our Lady of Sljeme, Queen of Croats, Zagreb
About
The Church of Our Lady of Sljeme, Queen of Croats, stands on Sljeme at a junction of hiking trails within Medvednica Nature Park. The chapel was built in 1932, its first indoor Mass was celebrated on Christmas Eve that year, and it became a parish church in 1963. Jesuits and lay supporters created it in a form inspired by early Christian Croatian churches, as a memorial to a millennium of the Croatian kingdom and 1,300 years of Croats’ Christianisation. With no permanent parish population, it serves hikers, day-trippers and pilgrims. It can be reached by Sljeme roads or marked walking routes.
