About
The remains of Susedgrad stand on the western slopes of Medvednica, above Podsused and near the confluence of the Krapina and Sava rivers. The fortified town formed part of the extensive Susedgrad–Stubica estate. From 1345 it was held by the Tóth family, and later by the Hennings, Báthorys, and other lords. In the 16th century, Franjo Tahi was among its owners; his name is connected with the conflicts that preceded the Croatian–Slovene Peasant Revolt of 1573. The castle burned down in the early 17th century and was never rebuilt. Today, its ruins offer a direct encounter with the history of western Zagreb and can be approached from the Podsused area.
