Lukač
About this place
Lukač is a Podravina village north of Virovitica, set in a flat landscape of fields and small settlements stretching towards the Drava and the Croatian–Hungarian border at Terezino Polje. The settlement expanded westwards from the Church of St Luke around the turn of the 18th century and took its name from that church. Today’s parish Church of St Luke the Evangelist dates from 1771, while the parish itself appears in records as early as 1416 and was re-established in 1761. The wider municipality comprises twelve settlements, including Kapela Dvor, Turanovac, Terezino Polje and Zrinj Lukački. Kapela Dvor contains the restored 19th-century Janković manor, a hub for cycling routes towards Virovitica, Terezino Polje and Pitomača. Farther north, the Drava and Lake Zrinj provide fishing and excursion settings that contrast with the cultivated plain. Lukač consequently works as a quiet base for exploring a manor, a historic church, Drava waters and villages beside the Hungarian border.
Lukač is the flatland centre of a twelve-settlement municipality in the Drava lowlands north of Virovitica. The village began expanding around the turn of the 18th century from the Church of St Luke towards the west, and the church’s patron gave Lukač its name. The parish is recorded in 1416, was re-established in 1761, and the present Church of St Luke the Evangelist dates from 1771. Cultivated fields connect Lukač with villages extending towards the Drava, while Terezino Polje marks the Croatian–Hungarian border. Beyond Lukač itself, the municipality’s identity includes the Janković manor at Kapela Dvor, Lake Zrinj and fishing locations along the Drava’s right bank.

Things to do
Begin in Lukač at the Church of St Luke the Evangelist, built in 1771 and marking the historic point from which the settlement expanded westwards. Continue to Kapela Dvor and the restored 19th-century Janković manor, now used as a tourism and educational centre. Cycling connections from the manor include Kapela Dvor–Virovitica, Lukač–Budakovac and a route towards Terezino Polje and Pitomača. Finish at Lake Zrinj, a recognised local fishing gathering place, or continue to the Drava’s right bank near Terezino Polje. This sequence links Lukač’s religious heritage, the country estate at Kapela Dvor and the river landscape beside the national border.

Practical information
Getting there and around
Lukač is linked by road with Virovitica and the Podravina settlements towards Pitomača, while the northern route through Terezino Polje reaches the Drava and the Hungarian border. The county’s 2026 timetable lists a weekday Pitomača–Virovitica bus that stops at Lukač; its published itinerary places Lukač eight kilometres from Virovitica Bus Station. The same network includes the Turanovac R stop, useful for the municipality’s western side. A car or bicycle is more practical for reaching the Janković manor at Kapela Dvor, Lake Zrinj and the Drava bank because these sites are distributed among separate settlements. Check the current county timetable before departure, as some services operate only on weekdays or during the school term.
