Donji Andrijevci
About this place
Donji Andrijevci is a lowland Slavonian settlement in the eastern part of Brod-Posavina County, about 26 kilometres by road from Slavonski Brod. Its municipality comprises Donji Andrijevci, Staro Topolje, Novo Topolje and Sredanci, with farmland covering almost 70 per cent of the municipal area. That landscape explains why the place is experienced through long village streets, cultivated fields and Šokac heritage rather than a circuit of conventional tourist sights. Historical records mention the settlement as Androwcz in 1428, while the present municipality was established on 16 April 1993. The Church of St Andrew is the central landmark, and the gold-and-silver tamburica on the municipal coat of arms reflects the importance of local music and folklore. A different chapter survives in accounts of the timber-processing factory founded in 1919 and its former narrow-gauge railway for carrying oak. Donji Andrijevci also has a useful transport position: the Zagreb–Vinkovci railway crosses the municipality, while local roads connect the Sava plain around Slavonski Brod with the Đakovo area and the A3 motorway. The village rewards a slow visit focused on its church, centre, vernacular streetscape and events preserving Slavonian traditions.
Donji Andrijevci is a municipal centre in the Posavina plain, 25 kilometres east of Slavonski Brod and beside the Zagreb–Vinkovci railway corridor. Established on 16 April 1993, the present municipality also includes Staro Topolje, Novo Topolje and Sredanci. Farmland covers 3,973.40 hectares, or 69.89% of the municipal area, making cultivated fields and agricultural production central to the character of the Andrijevci landscape. Across the municipality, flat and gently rolling ground ranges from roughly 80 to 150 metres above sea level, while a narrow strip belonging to neighbouring Oprisavci separates its southern edge from the River Sava.

Things to do
Start a short visit at the Church of St Andrew, the village’s principal religious landmark, then continue through the centre towards King Tomislav Square. Along the streets, look for the elongated form of a traditional Slavonian settlement shaped by the road and adjoining agricultural plots. The local industrial story includes a timber-processing factory founded by German and Swiss Jewish investors in 1919 and a narrow-gauge railway once used to carry oak towards Đurđenovac. If your visit coincides with a public programme, choose a performance by the Tomislav folklore ensemble or a municipal event featuring tamburica music and local dance. A longer drive can continue through Staro Topolje, Novo Topolje or Sredanci, revealing more of the farmland that defines the municipality.

Practical information
Getting there and around
Donji Andrijevci lies roughly 26 kilometres by road east of Slavonski Brod and is connected to an important east–west transport corridor. The Zagreb–Vinkovci railway passes through the municipality, while Croatian Railways’ 2025/2026 timetable remains valid until 12 December 2026 and has been amended several times during the year. Rail passengers should therefore confirm current stopping patterns and journey times in the HŽPP planner rather than use an older schedule. The road approach from Slavonski Brod crosses the county’s flat eastern plain, although the principal motorway and road junctions lie outside the municipality itself. Within Donji Andrijevci, the centre, Church of St Andrew and station area can be linked on foot; a car is more useful for reaching Staro Topolje, Novo Topolje and Sredanci.
