The Rt Oštro lighthouse was constructed in 1872 during the Austro-Hungarian period as part of the illumination system for ships heading to Rijeka. The 15-meter stone tower first lit on August 18, 1872, and originally burned petroleum as fuel until 1937, when it was electrified. After being replaced by a floating marker in the late 1960s, the lighthouse was restored at local residents' request and reignited in 2006. Today it is protected as a Croatian cultural monument and represents a distinctive landmark of the peninsula with its characteristic red and white coloring.
