The Parish Church of St Mary Magdalene was commissioned by Petar Zrinski in 1670 within the former walls of the Frankopan town, taking over the parish role previously held by the church at Lešnica. This Baroque building forms a protected cultural ensemble with Zrinski Castle. Its crypt contains the burials of Brod parish priests and of the castle’s owners or administrators up to 1918. The church was severely damaged in a 1944 bombing raid and was subsequently rebuilt in stages. It is best experienced alongside the nearby castle, as the two monuments together preserve a tangible chapter of the Zrinski family’s presence in the Kupa Valley.
