The Parish Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary stands on Umag’s main Trg slobode. The present church replaced an older building damaged by severe weather; Filippo Dongetti designed the new structure, completed in 1757 and consecrated in 1760 even though its façade remained unfinished. The single-nave interior contains six chapels with Baroque marble altars. Notable furnishings include an organ made by F. Dazzi in 1776 and a Renaissance wooden Pietà relief. A detached fifteenth-century bell tower forms a distinctive ensemble with the church and dominates the centre of Umag. The site fits naturally into a walking tour of the old town.
