The Church of St Mary on Škriljinah stands in the cemetery about one kilometre northeast of Beram. It is a Gothic building whose sanctuary is the same width as its nave, and its interior is renowned for an exceptionally extensive Late Gothic painted cycle. In 1474, Vincent of Kastav completed 46 painted fields with scenes from the lives of Mary and Christ, alongside Old Testament and saintly subjects. Highlights include the eight-metre Adoration of the Magi, the Wheel of Fortune and the Dance of Death. An 18th-century Baroque renovation altered the church and damaged some frescoes; they were rediscovered and restored in 1913. It is an outstanding destination for admirers of medieval art and Istrian cultural heritage.
