St George’s Church is Sućuraj’s parish church, dedicated to the patron after whom the settlement takes its name. An earlier church of St George was recorded in the 1331 Hvar Statute, which is also the first written mention of Sućuraj. It was demolished in the late 19th century because of its condition, and the present church was built in 1897. Inside is a 1655 commemorative plaque in bosančica, a historic Cyrillic script, honouring Bishop Bartul Kačić Žarković. The church has a cruciform ground plan; its main altar holds a statue of St George slaying the dragon, a motif repeated in the ceiling painting and church banner. It stands in Sućuraj’s historic centre, close to the waterfront.
