Marina Tower, also known as the Bishop’s Tower, is a square stone tower with a projecting corbelled crown. In 1495, the Trogir rector Alvise Barbarigo authorised Bishop Francesco Marcello of Trogir to build it in Marina Bay as protection for the local population against the Ottoman threat. The tower formed part of a defensive complex with the land-based Citadel and the summer residence of Trogir’s bishops, around which the planned settlement of Marina developed. Its former channel to the mainland was filled in during the early 20th century. The tower was repaired in 1657 and 1717 and reconstructed in 1971–72.
