Saint Mark’s Co-cathedral anchors the architecture of Makarska’s central square. The late Baroque church stands on its raised side, reached by a broad flight of steps. Begin at the lower end of the square to take in the relationship between facade, bell tower and forecourt before moving closer. This setting gives Makarska a distinctly urban, historic character alongside its bathing areas. Continue through the surrounding streets towards Kalalarga and the waterfront to place the church within the old town. For an interior visit, avoid interrupting worship. Even a short stop outside is worthwhile when exploring the centre before heading back to the beach.
