Tor stands on a hill south of Jelsa at roughly 230 metres above sea level. The massive rectangular tower, built from large stone blocks, belongs to a fortified complex dating to the 4th century BC, during a period of strong Greek influence after the foundation of Pharos. Recent archaeological research links the tower with a fortified rural settlement and an older prehistoric tumulus. Its position controlled views over the Jelsa and Stari Grad fields, the channels toward Brač and the mainland, and important routes across the island’s interior. Reaching the site requires an uphill walk, so sturdy footwear and sufficient water are advisable, particularly during summer.
