On the islet of Mrduja, in the channel between Brač and Šolta near Milna harbour, stands the church-fortress, a protected cultural property registered as Z-1864. Because it lies on a route towards Salona and Split, Mrduja had an important navigational role from antiquity onwards. A ruined Gothic chapel with a square apse stands on the islet’s western side. Its ground floor is vaulted, while a terrace lookout with defensive features rises above the vault, giving the building both sacred and protective functions. It may also have served as a lighthouse; a navigational signal light still operates there today. The landmark is most clearly appreciated from the sea.
