Garešnica is the centre of Northern Moslavina, set beside the river of the same name, 17 kilometres north-east of Kutina and about 130 metres above sea level. Historical records mention it in 1257 as a county seat, while the parish of St Mary appears in documents from 1334. Today’s Baroque Church of the Visitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary dates from 1752, and its bell tower defines the town-centre skyline. Garešnica is also the birthplace of singer Ivo Robić, whose career and musical legacy are presented in a local gallery and in the destination’s visitor interpretation. The town’s natural setting comes into focus at the Natura 2000 Visitor Centre at 2 Kolodvorska Street, a gateway to Poilovlje, the Ilova River and nearby fishponds. The Green Gardens of Poilovlje project links the centre with a themed trail and educational points at Kaniška Iva and Pepeljni vrtovi. Garešnica stands on the Kutina–Virovitica–Barcs road corridor, while the centre’s location in a renovated former community hall recalls the Kolodvorska district’s earlier transport role.
Garešnica combines a Moslavina market-town identity with the watery landscape of the Ilova River and fishponds south of town. The settlement beside the Garešnica River first appears in records in 1257, while the Baroque Church of the Visitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary, dating from 1752, remains the centre’s principal landmark. Its cultural story includes Ivo Robić, born in Garešnica and celebrated in a gallery bearing his name. A newer layer is supplied by the Natura 2000 Visitor Centre on Kolodvorska Street, created to interpret Poilovlje’s birds, waters and habitats.
Begin a visit to Garešnica at the Natura 2000 Visitor Centre, Kolodvorska 2, created from the former community hall through the Green Gardens of Poilovlje project. Its ground floor contains a multimedia gallery and souvenir shop, while a lift leads to the classroom and laboratory upstairs. The same building holds the permanent Ivo Robić “Mr. Morgen” gallery, with his sheet music, letters, photographs, instruments and other personal items. It makes a fitting link between Poilovlje’s natural heritage and the legacy of the singer born in Garešnica in 1923.
The centre is at 2 Kolodvorska Street in Garešnica, inside a renovated former community hall.
Ivo Robić was born in Garešnica, and a local gallery presents his life and music.
The Ivo Robić “Mr. Morgen” gallery is inside Garešnica’s Natura 2000 Visitor Centre.
The Natura 2000 Visitor Centre is at Kolodvorska 2, Garešnica.
