Jirkovsky Palace on Županijska Street is one of Vukovar’s notable historicist buildings. Sofija and Josip Jirkovsky commissioned it in 1874 to a design by Karlo Kallescsen. It originally housed the ‘K crnom konju’ inn and lodging house, which also hosted theatrical performances. Count Eltz bought the palace around 1890, and a smaller adjoining storeyed building with a matching façade was added later that century. The building is protected cultural property, registered as Z-4034. Take in the façade from the street, but note that it is used by an educational institution rather than operated as an independently ticketed museum.
