About
The Church of St Barbara in Velika Mlaka is among the most valuable surviving wooden chapels of Turopolje. Its oldest section, the sanctuary with its apse, dates from the 17th century; local tradition links the construction to 1642, a date carved on the covered entrance added in 1912. Oak beams are joined using the German-corner technique, the roof is shingled, and a small turret rises above the sanctuary. Inside, visitors can see a painted coffered wooden ceiling, floral decoration, and saints including St Kümmernisse, together with a 17th-century winged altarpiece illustrating the Passion. Arrange access in advance if you wish to see the interior.
