Museum of Serbs of Croatia

defunct museum in Zagreb

About

Founded in Zagreb in 1946, the Museum of Serbs of Croatia was established on the initiative of the Main Board of Serbs in Croatia and the Serbian Cultural Society Prosvjeta, initially as a department of the Museum of Arts and Crafts. Its core holdings included objects from Serbian Orthodox churches and monasteries in the territory of the wartime Independent State of Croatia that had been preserved and deposited at the Museum of Arts and Crafts. In early 1948 it became a department of the Croatian Historical Museum. Its five galleries interpreted the history of Serbs in Croatia through religious art, crafts, military life and urban society. It operated independently in Zagreb during the 1950s before being incorporated into the Croatian Historical Museum.
