Church of the Dormition of the Mother of God

The Church of the Dormition of the Mother of God serves the Serbian Orthodox community of Osijek’s Lower Town. An earlier wooden Orthodox church stood here in the early 18th century; the present masonry building replaced it in 1719. It is therefore closely connected with the development of Lower Town and the history of its Serbian community, which marked 300 years since the construction of its first church in 2019. The church is a worthwhile stop for visitors interested in sacred heritage and Osijek’s multi-faith past. It stands in Lower Town at Crkvena 15; visitors should respect services and the quiet of the church when entering.
