About
Jasenovac Monastery is centred on the Church of the Nativity of St John the Baptist and belongs to the Serbian Orthodox Church’s Eparchy of Slavonia. The church was built in 1775, destroyed in 1941, then rebuilt and consecrated in 1984. It was damaged again during the war in 1991; following its restoration in 2000, the church was proclaimed a monastery. The monastery is a place of worship and remembrance for the victims of Jasenovac, with a particular role in Orthodox commemorations of their suffering. It offers visitors a religious and memorial perspective on Jasenovac’s difficult twentieth-century history.
